Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes Iranian ceramic tiles during crackdown

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigationteam  has seized smuggled ceramic tiles of Iranian origin valued at Rs7,90,000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs5,92,500. The Customs I&I teams also impounded vehicle worth Rs 6,00,000 which was being used for transportation of these tiles under section 157(2) of the Customs Act 1969.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Intelligence team following credible information received through Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain intercepted Master mini truck bearing registration no. LWN-3607 Model-2006 and recovered 511 cartons of non duty paid ceramic tiles made in Iran in different size and design.

Customs team asked the driver namely Muhammad Anwar son of Muhammad Siddique resident of Aminpur Bazar to produce any documents regarding legal import of the tiles but he remained failed to do so. Therefore customs confiscated the smuggled items following the prevailing customs law.

It is pertinent to mention here that after seizure of tiles Turyali son of Muhammad Musa r appeared in intelligence office and produced copy of GD bearing IGM no. 15153 showing clearance of ceramic tiles from Customs Dry Port Quetta. The produced documents were scrutinized and found irrelevant with the recovered ceramic tiles as no description sizes brand was mentioned in GD and brand mentioned in the bid sheet was not recovered found.

Customs Intelligence team comprising Senior Intelligence officer Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Siddique, Mohammad Saleem and Liaqat Ali, Israr Ahmed, Shoukat Hayat participated in the operation.
