Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes items worth Rs 5.7m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated smuggled goods worth Rs 5.78 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 2.985 million during the second week of November 2016.

According to details, the intelligence team following the directions of Director Rubab Sikandar conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. However, three cases of smuggling were registered against suspects.

The Intelligence team impounded two vehicles, including Toyota Corolla bearing Registration No LEC-09-6218 model 2009 worth Rs 1 million and Hino Ranger truck Registration No SEA-558 worth Rs 1 million during the said period.

It also seized a huge quantity black tea 106 Bags worth Rs 2.2 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 858,000 allegedly smuggled by Shmasul Haq and others and 195 rolls of ladies suiting cloth printed worth Rs 580,000 involved duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.1338 million. Abid Ali and others have been nominated as accused persons.

On the other hand, the Khushab Field Investigation Unit (FIU) seized 127 bags of almond with soft shell worth Rs 3 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.851 million and Moosa Khan is accused person in the case.

The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1) 89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce any document showing the legal import of the items.

The intelligence officers, including Superintendent Muhammad Saifullah, Senior Intelligence Officer Muhammad Tahir, Intelligence Officers Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, and Sepoys Ajamal Hussain and Muhammad Musaddiq Ahmad participated in the raids. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action.
