Faisalabad Customs seizes 61 cell phones, accessories at airport

FAISALABAD: The customs staff has busted smuggling attempt at Faisalabad International Airport and seized 61 cell phones and accessories worth Rs 610,000 involving customs duty/taxes amounting to Rs 114,563.

According to the details, a team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Rizwan Khan, comprising Superintendent Zahid Raza Bukhari, Inspector Muhammad Munir Ahmad, Muhammad Shahid Iqbal, Ahmad Hussain, and others intercepted a passenger for checking.

The officials checked his luggage and recovered cell phones of assorted brands, including Samsung Galaxy, HTC, etc. The passenger who identified himself as Gul Riaz Khan was asked to show receipt or invoices but he failed to provide any relevant documents. The officials confiscated the cell phones under Section 2(s), read with SRO 566(1)/2005 with Section 16, 18, 139, 157, of the Customs Act, 1969.

Seizure report has been forwarded to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action against the suspect.
