Faisalabad Customs seizes non duty paid LCDs, curtain cloth

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated foreign origin smuggled used LCD and curtain cloth worth Rs17,05,000 involving duty and taxes Rs900000 during an action near Shahkot Toll Plaza.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Rana Irfan Shouqat received credible information about some smuggling attempts. He immediately formed a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Irshad Ali to use all available resources to curb these attempts.

However, the customs team comprising Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir, Sepoy Muhammad Shahbaz, Shouqat Hayat and Havaldar Muhammad Naeem Niazi and others started checking of vehicles. The team intercepted Bedford truck and recovered foreign origin sofa curtain cloth 42 rolls in weighing 1645 kilogram and recovered old and used LCDs of different brand and sizes.

The officials also asked the driver namely Qasim Hussain son of Muhammad Hussain to show documents regarding legal import of the items but he could not produce the same.

Therefore, the officials confiscated the items under the customs laws and shifted to the compound of Customs Intelligence and Investigation. The team also registered a case under the Customs Act 1969 against the accused person, while the driver was released along with vehicle after proper interrogation.
