FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized a large quantity of foreign origin smuggled goods from Rehmaia Mills Godown at situated at Rehmania Road worth Rs 110 million.
While talking to Customs Today, Deputy Collector Amjad Aman has said that the raid was conducted on a tip-off that illegally imported smuggled goods were being stored at the Rehmania Godown and supplied afterward to the local market after evading duty and taxes posing loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer. The operation was conducted after a day-long vigilance of the godown and finally the ASO team on the directions of Collector Muhammad Saleem successfully raided the godown and confiscated the illegally imported Items.
He said the Customs ASO team under the supervision of Superintendent Rao Anjum Sherazi conducted the operation while others including Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Qazi, Muhammad Nasir, Saeed Azhar, Zaheer Muhammad, Waqas Masood Cheema and others sepoys had to face intense retaliation from the godown owners.
Deputy Collector Amjad Aman said ASO raided the said godown at 12 pm. The situation was conveyed to the higher authorities and deployment was beefed up in coordination with police. The forces put an end to the violence completed the operation successfully and seized huge quantity of goods and Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) has impounded five Mazda trucks loaded with smuggled black pepper and kishmish from the possession of one accused person namely Hafiz Naveed Ur Rehman, owner of Godown Al Badar Traders Rehmania Mills Faisalabad available on the spot. The Customs authorities after registering a case against the accused party have initiated further investigations into the case.
Deputy Collector C Amjad Aman said that the ASO team has saved millions of rupees by conducting the operations against the illegal elements. He said that the seizure of such huge quantity of goods and others miscellaneous items conducted after a due legal procedure. The Chief Collector encouraged the whole ASO team for the successful operation. He also expected more such mega seizures from the ASO team in future.
