Newly posted Member Customs Operations Dr. Fareedd Iqbal Qureshi also served as Collector Customs Appraisement West Karachi in 2017.

In 2022 during his tenure as Chief Collector Customs Appraisement Dr. Farid Iqbal Qureshi adopted a comprehensive policy against smuggling. His appointment as Member Customs Operations proves that business community and the government is on the same page about his abilities.

Dr. Fareed Iqbal Qureshi also performed his duties as Director-General Customs Valuation. He introduced an open-door policy for addressing all the grievances of the business community.

He used to hold zoom meetings with members of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry to get in touch with them for resolving their issues.

As Director General Customs Valuation he directed to conduct market surveys. He refused the impression that the Customs Valuation department done surveys only at mega stores saying that they also survey wholesale markets for price evaluation.

He said that the Customs officials issue the valuation ruling on the basis of market inquiry, while he recommended that the key parameters and the procedure of market inquiry should be properly notified to bring more transparency in the valuation process.

Moreover, a representative from local chamber or sector specific association must accompany the Customs officials when market inquiry is conducted for determining valuation of a certain commodity.

The FBR expressed confidence in Dr. Qureshi’s capabilities to address the challenges associated with the efficient functioning of goods clearance and the prevention of smuggling activities along the borders.
