FBR acquits five Customs officials of corruption charges‏

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has acquitted at least five officials of the Customs Collectorate Port Muhammad Bin Qasim of corruption charges.

The officials, who were acquitted, include Principal Appraiser Safdar Abbas, Appraiser Ghulam Yasin, Appraiser Raja Waseem Ahmad, Examiner Ali Murad and Examiner Habibullah.

“Whereas disciplinary proceedings, under Government Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 1973 were initiated against BS-16 officials of Model Customs Collectorate Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Karachi vide Charge Sheet No 10(22)/2014-Cust-III dated 20.11.2014”, according to Qasim Khan Khattak, Secretary Mgt Customs-III.

“Muhammad Tahir, Additional Collector BS-19, Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East Karachi was appointed as Inquiry Officer to conduct inquiry into the charges leveled against the above officials.

According to inquiry reports submitted by the inquiry officer, the charges leveled against the accused officials have not been established”, it added.

“The authorized officer/Chief Management-Customs) FBR has therefore acquitted/exonerated the above officials from the charges leveled against them”, the letters concluded.
