KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has generated additional Rs2.7 billion under broadening of tax base (BTB) campaign during the last three years.
The country’s top revenue authority collected Rs1.77 billion through new income tax returns and raised Rs921 million through issuing notices up to June 30.
The BTB task was evolved in 2013. Under the project, the FBR had set a target to issue notices to 300,000 new taxpayers up to June 2016. The BTB campaign was officially commenced on July 19, 2013 and the BTB Wing was placed under a Director General BS-21 officer on July 21, 2014.
According to a report, Pakistan has a labour force of 5.6 million people whereas it has only 3.6 million taxpayers.
The FBR issued 465,165 notices to the potential taxpayers; of which 132,505 tax returns were filed by June 30, 2016. The FBR raised demand of Rs36.47 billion in 101,662 notices issued for the provisional audit, the report added.
