FBR detects 3604 potential taxpayers through electricity bills of MEPCO

MULTAN: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Regional Tax Office (RTO) detected 3604 potential taxpayers through electricity bills of MEPCO.

Sources told Customs Today that the Regional Tax Office has gathered information about commercial and domestic electricity consumers who paid handsome bills every month to Multan Electric Power Company and they are non-filer. Regional Tax Office is taking few initiatives to bring high electricity consumers of domestic and commercial in the tax net on the directions of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to broaden the tax net.

The Federal Board of Revenue is making full efforts for broadening of tax net. The Regional Tax Office Multan is trying to detect potential taxpayers through electricity bills issued by Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) to consumers.

The Regional Tax Office has scrutinized all the record of MEPCO and they have collected separate data of potential taxpayers. The special data has been prepared on the directions of the FBR to broaden tax net. The RTO collected record of all those who are paying more than Rs600,000 electricity bills.

According to data of Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), there 3604 consumers who will come under the tax net and the RTO Multan has detected said electricity consumers after examining their record of paid bills in the last few months.

The Regional Tax Office will issue tax notices to these 3604 electricity consumers for the payment of their taxes after assessment of their tax records. Inclusion of detected taxpayer will also lift tax collection of Regional Tax Office Multan.
