FBR, HRDN to launch ‘whistle-Blower’ to stop revenue leakage

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue has started implementation of its planning regarding expanding of tax net and stoppage of tax-leakage with collaboration of Non-Government Organization (NGO) Human Resource Development.

As per details, FBR has started implementing ‘whistle blowing’ project, developed software with the same name to counter tax evaders. Director General of Intelligence and Investigations Haroon Tareen briefed revenue board on the said project in a conference held at FBR headquarters.

In his briefing, Tareen emphasized on the need to implement suggestions presented by HRDN which, he thought, will be beneficial for more than 30,000 people directly and ten crore indirectly.

According to concept notes of project ‘Whistle Blower’ citizens will be able to file complaints of tax theft and corruption in Inland Revenue offices. FBR officials will be trained at proper use of project and software.

Sources told Customs Today that it is expected that FBR would introduce a law under Income Tax Ordinance to protect the project. “It is planned that a campaign will be launched for public awareness about this project,” they added.

“Revenue departments in many countries like Italy, US, UK and Maldives has developed laws under Whistle-Blower project,” sources said, adding that in Pakistan the project will possibly be funded by USAID.

They said that the software of the project will be prepared with collaboration of HRDN, however, FBR will be the sole owner of that software and all codes will be provided to board.
