ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) increased the penalty to seven years of jail for the smuggling under the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade and also surged the fine amount, it is learnt here.
Official sources told Customs Today that after the implementation of Finance Bill 2018, the smuggling and other malfunctioning in the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade will be treated under Clause 63(i) of section 156-B of Customs Act 1969. The board has directed all the field formation in this regard. The clause suggests seven years of jail term and fine amount of 10 times of more than worth of smuggled goods.

Sources also said that according to clause 63(i), if the goods loaded for transshipment unloaded before the destination the authority will deal this case under the above-mention section clause and the goods will be confiscated while authority will register case against the importer, agent and bonded carrier.
Furthermore, if the impounded goods founded as banned, the authority will impose fine 10 times more than the value of the confiscated goods while accused may have to get 7 years of jail term, the sources concluded as saying.
