ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued electronic notices to 5,826 retailers asking them to submit their tax returns under normal and turnover regime. The FBR has also obtained electricity bills’ details of these retailers.

Sources told Customs Today that the FBR has taken this step to broaden tax net and to implement tax reforms into the country. “The FBR has been identifying those retailers who were not submitting their tax returns, through electricity bills,” they added.

Moreover, The FBR has instructed all field formation officers to identify and make a list of all retailers having Rs 20,000 or above amount of electricity bills and asked RTOs to put their names into audit lists.

Officials also raised concerns that by charging sales tax on electricity bills, retailers and other people will try to steal electricity.
