ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed manufacturers and importers of 56 goods listed in the Third Schedule of the Sales Tax Act to clearly display the retail price and sales tax amount on each product.

The directive was issued through Sales Tax General Order No 8 of 2026 on Monday.

According to the FBR, taxable supplies and imports of goods specified in the Third Schedule are chargeable to sales tax at 18% of the retail price.

The retail price and amount of sales tax must be legibly, prominently and indelibly printed or embossed by the manufacturer, or by the importer in the case of imported goods, on each packet, container, package, cover or label.

The FBR said it had observed that, in several cases, the retail price on Third Schedule goods was either not printed, not clearly visible, or obscured by the background, monogram, design, colour scheme or other printed material.

It said such practices make it difficult to determine the retail price for the levy and collection of sales tax.

The tax authority directed all manufacturers and importers to ensure that retail prices and sales tax amounts are displayed in a clear, legible, prominent and indelible manner.
