SIALKOT: – The plan of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) of expanding the tax net has flopped in both neighbouring Sialkot and Gujranwala regions, as the special FBR teams have also miserably failed to achieve the fixed official target of maximum collection of the annual tax returns fixed by the FBR despite the three times increase in the final date of deadline (Dec 31,2015)given for this purpose.
According to the senior FBR officials, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had given special targets of maximum tax returns collection to both Sialkot and Gujranwala regions. 43000 tax returns’ target fixed for Gujranwala region (comprising Gujranwala and Hafizabad districts) and 35000 tax returns collection target fixed for Sialkot region (comprising Sialkot, Narowal and Gujrat districts), out of which the Gujranwala region has yet collected only 20,000 tax returns against its target of 43000 tax returns and Sialkot region has yet collected only 15000 tax returns against its official target of 35,000 as well.
The final dead line is ending on Dec 31,2015 fixed for submission of the tax returns by the tax payers and the both Sialkot and Gujranwala tax region have yet collected only 35000 tax returns against the fixed official target of 78000 tax returns.
The senior FBR officials added that the FBR would be able to collect maximum 40,000 tax returns during the next couple of days till Dec 31, 2015 against the official target of 78000 tax returns.
They admitted that the plan of collecting tax returns by expanding the tax net has become flopped in both neighbouring Sialkot and Gujranwala tax regions, despite the hectic efforts made by the FBR, in this regard.
FBR had established 17 special counters in Gujranwala district, three counters in Hafizabad district and 19 special counters in Sialkot, Narowal and Gujrat districts to facilitate the local tax payers at local level, under the supervision of 24 FBR special teams.
The FBR had also issued the tax recovery notices to as many as 138,000 tax payers in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts, asking them to ensure the submission of their annual tax returns till the final deadline of Dec 31,2015.
