ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has allowed recruitment of 70 intelligence officers for Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation.
All intelligence officers will be recruited through Federal Public Service Commission and will be appointed at all directorates of the country.
Customs Intelligence Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan is of view that induction of 70 intelligence officers will give a boost to the performance of the department. He added that the Customs Intelligence has been performing well despite having low resources; however, enhancing workforce will definitely improve the performance.
The DG further informed that a process to recruit 150 sepoys has been completed, adding that all sepoys were educated youngsters and selected on merit. Newly recruited sepoys have recently been appointed at headquarters and a plan is underway for their better training, he said.
Illegal trade and smuggling of non-duty paid vehicles and other goods were bringing huge losses to the national economy. All these challenges could be tackled with effective force for which the FBR has taken steps.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded non-duty paid Ford Tranist van worth Rs 1.652 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.402 million from Attock.
The Customs Intelligence has launched a crackdown against non-duty paid vehicles following the directions of Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan. The FBR also ordered to take strict measures against the smuggled goods and vehicles.
As per details, Customs Intelligence raided an area of Attock following information regarding existence of an unclaimed vehicle, which was brought into country illegally. The officials impounded the vehicle and registered a case No 43/2016 against unknown persons.
