ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched recovery proceedings against 38 prominent YouTubers, TikTok stars, and social media influencers for concealing income and amassing unexplained wealth totaling Rs15 billion.

FBR’s “Lifestyle Monitoring Cell” identified discrepancies between the influencers’ declared income and their actual lifestyle, uncovering significant undeclared expenditure and concealed assets.

The authorities have confirmed that individuals displaying extravagant wealth on digital platforms, while evading taxes, will face strict action.

The FBR will carry out comprehensive income tax audits of the identified social media personalities, issuing notices for concealment of income and imposing penalties for unpaid taxes over several years. Field formations have already initiated detailed audits in many cases.

The Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation–Inland Revenue, through its Lifestyle Monitoring Cell, has directed field formations to take necessary action. Sources indicate that the evidence clearly shows funds used to maintain lavish lifestyles originated from income not declared with tax authorities.

This initiative underscores FBR’s commitment to monitoring lifestyle discrepancies and ensuring all digital content creators comply with Pakistan’s tax laws.
