KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started digitally serving notices to non-filers of income tax returns for various years.
According to the sources, the auto-generated notices were digitally sent to taxpayers through the Iris – the online system of the FBR. The FBR has already announced that it would take ‘harsh’ actions against non-filers from audit to fine and penalties after the last date (Dec 15) of returns filing.
Sources said the notices are being sent under subsection 1 of Section 122C, asking the taxpayers to file their returns of the past six years. After 45 days, the assessment made by the tax authorities will be treated as final. Besides, the tax authorities will also impose penalties for the delayed filing.
