ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue is taking countrywide successful action against the smuggled and non-duty paid cigarettes.
This was revealed by FBR’s Intelligence and Investigation-Inland Revenue Director General Khawaja Tanveer Ahmad, while giving briefing to Senate Sub Committee on National Health Services (NHS). He said that the co-ordination and support of provincial authorities is also needed to make the campaign successful.
The I&I-IR DG said that despite several successful actions, latest infrastructure, equipment and logistic support and effective co-ordination with the provincial departments are also required.
Khawaja Tanveer said that the agency’s intelligence network is well aware about the places where such non-duty paid smuggled cigarettes are stored, but full-fledged enforcement actions in sensitive areas needs political support.
The Intelligence and Investigation director general also briefed the committee in detail about the successful operations of the agency against the smuggled and non-duty paid cigarettes.
