ISLAMABAD: A four-member monitoring and evaluation technical team of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is paying surprise visits to the sites of ongoing development projects to monitor the pace and quality of work.

“The team, comprising Engineers, Surveyors and architects is likely to visit sites of the under construction offices in Daska, Okara and DI Khan this month,” a source at FBR told this scribe here on Wednesday.

“Under the initiative of FBR chairman and member admin to improve the existing infrastructure, construction and development work has been completed at four cities including Kasur, Ghotki, DI Khan and Bannu,” the source said, adding that the ongoing construction work in three stations, including Rahim Yar Khan, Okara and Daska would be completed by the end of this year.

The source said that Rs 15 to 20 million had been approved for construction/ renovation and repair of offices in seven cities in a bid to improve the infrastructure of the FBR.

The source said that the technical team of Administration Wing, Wednesday, paid a surprise visit to under-construction swimming pool at the Directorate of Training of Inland Revenue, Lahore and expressed serious concerns over the slow work pace. The team came hard on the Public Works Department (PWD) officials for showing inefficiency and negligence towards their professional obligations.

The source said that Central Development Working Party (CWDP) in a meeting held in October approved the PC-I of the phase-II of the development project for infrastructure of the FBR.

The source added that with the completion of ongoing development projects related to infrastructure, working capacity and efficiency of officers would be further enhanced along with improvement in standards of the work. “This will also facilitate the taxpayers, increase tax collection and improve FBR’s image in the general public,” the source added.

The FBR operational and field officers have expressed delightedness on focus of senior officials on infrastructure development like establishment of offices at small cities and towns to facilitate the taxpayers at their doorsteps, but also wanted little bit focus of the competent authorities towards low scaled operational facilities like vehicles, IT infrastructure and logistics for the field officers.
