FBR to establish special cell to monitor sales tax collection

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to establish a Special Centralized Enforcement Cell to monitor the status of sales tax collection.

Sources told Customs Today that apart from monitoring the sales tax collection, the cell will also take measures to curb cigarettes smuggling.

Sources said that the FBR expected to generate Rs 120 billion. Minister of State for Revenue Haroon Akhtar and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Dr Mohammad Irshad have directed all chief commissioners, commissioners and collectors to concentrate on the collection of sales tax and take stern action against tax evaders.

A video conference was also held which was presided over by State Minister of Revenue Haroon Akhtar and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue. Prominent among those who attended the video conference includes Member Inland Revenue Rehamt Ullah Khan Wazir, Member Administration Muhammad Majid Qureshi, Member Customs Nasir Masroor Ahmed, Member Legal Hafiz Muhammad Ali Indhar, Member Taxpayers Audit Ms. Raana Seerat, Member FATE Ms. Nausheen Javaid Amjad, Member Human Resource Management Rozi Khan Burki, Member Strategic Planning Reforms and IT Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Member Accounting Shahid Zaman and other senior officials attended the meeting.

It has decided in the meeting that Enforcement cell will also monitor the cigarettes industry. Enforcement cell will also play a role to stop and curb the menace of fake and non-duty paid smuggled cigarettes. State Minister directed to chief commissioners to speed up the efforts for the collection of revenue and also start the process of sending the budget proposals and recommendations for the next financial year 2017-2018.

The FBR chairman said, “We need performance in true means if any officer feels some hurdles in his ways we extend full support to him.”
