FBR ‘to impose’ duty on computer, accessories to generate Rs5.5b revenue

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue is mulling to impose import duty on computers, laptops and their accessories to control under-invoicing and smuggling and to generate about Rs5.5 billion revenue.

Sources said that the country’s top revenue authority is devising a comprehensive plan with the consultation of all stakeholders of IT business. Under the plan, duty on more than 100 items, including computers and laptops will be fixed. According to an estimate, an increase of Rs 5.5 billion will be made by fixing import duty on computer and its accessories.
