FBR to focus on revenue generation in Q2: Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan has said that all focus will be put on revenue collection and exploiting potential of growing sectors during the second quarter of the fiscal year 2016-17.

Reacting on shortfall faced by the FBR during the first quarter, he said that oil sector imposed a negative effect on revenue generation. Talking to the media, the chairman informed that all refunds will be cleared by October 15 as per the promise of the incumbent government, adding that Rs 23 billion has been issued as refunds.

The ongoing chief commissioners’ conference has single point agenda of achieving the revenue targets during the second quarter, besides overcoming the shortfall, he informed, adding that a strategy will be developed with the suggestions of all chief commissioners to increase the revenue collection from growing sectors and meet the goals.

“Performance of the FBR should not be assessed on a daily basis, while we should wait until the results of second quarter, before raising questions on the performance,” the chairman suggested.

The performance of every regional office and large taxpayers unit will be reviewed individually in order to trace the causes of revenue shortfall, he said, adding that no compromise will be made on any kind of negligence.
