KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has got approval from the federal government to hire 190 preventive officers in BPS-16 for the Pakistan Customs Services (PCS), it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that the federal government, through a notification, has directed the FBR to recruit preventive officers.

The recruitment will be made through the Federal Public Service Commission by January 2017 next year. The sources further said that the process of recruitment would be started in January-after advertising the posts in the national newspapers.

It is worth mentioning here that there was no recruitment in the Pakistan Customs Services for last 20 years or so which is creating issues and affecting the anti-smuggling operations as the experienced staffers have been retired and no fresh blood is being made in the services.

Eventually, the federal government has decided to recruit preventive officers so that the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) should be made more effective and efficient
