LAHORE: The Federal Revenue Alliance Employees Union in its emergent meetings held simultaneously at Regional Tax Offices (RTO) in different cities including Sialkot, Sukkhar and Faisalabad vehemently opposed the dismissal of FBR Union central president. They also threatened to go on strike for unlimited period if the government did not withdraw the decision.
The FBR Union executive bodies of several RTOs have sent copies of resolution to the chief commissioners concerned, warning them to refrain from taking anti-workers step and withdrawal of notices otherwise the staff of the entire FBR would go on strike, closing each and every tax office all over the country.
According to spokesperson of the Union, rest of the Regional Tax Offices of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Bahawalpur and Quetta Customs have also called the meeting on Wednesday (today) to condemn the issuance of show cause to Union President Mian Abdul Qayyum.
He pointed out that if the anti-worker acts did not stop their protest would be extended to across the country. He informed that Union’s Lahore region General Secretary Shehzad Khurshid and President Syed Naeem Abbas have submitted copies of the resolution passed by workers to the Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue, RTOs – Lahore, Sialkot and Sukkhar. Copies of the resolution would also be presented to the heads of 11 others regional tax offices across the country.
The spokesperson said that the FBR Union, under the leadership of Mian Abdul Qayyum, was not only working for the wellbeing of lower staff but also endeavoring to enhance tax collection. “The central president always raised voice against tax evasion by several big companies, including so-called non-resident companies, which were evading tax of billions of rupees for a long time,” he claimed, adding that the union leaders were being punished for the attempts to transform the FBR into a transparent tax collecting agency.
The spokesperson reiterated the pledge that the union, under the leadership of Mian Abdul Qayyum, would continue struggle for the cause of workers and field staff, who actually make revenue target possible through their efforts.
