ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) online tax filing portal, IRIS, experienced a slowdown and intermittent outages today, reportedly due to heavy workload as the tax return filing deadline draws closer.
Taxpayers across the country reported difficulties in logging in and submitting returns, with many facing long loading times and repeated disconnections. The issue has sparked frustration among filers, particularly those trying to meet the September 30 deadline.
When contacted, FBR’s helpline representatives acknowledged that the website was facing technical glitches caused by excessive traffic. They assured taxpayers that the technical team was working to stabilize the system. However, officials categorically denied any possibility of extending the return filing deadline, urging filers to continue attempts and avoid waiting until the last days of September.
The announcement has raised concerns among taxpayers and tax professionals, many of whom argue that without ensuring smooth digital access, timely compliance becomes difficult.
The FBR has advised taxpayers to keep trying at different times of the day when the traffic is relatively lower, while also reminding them of the legal requirement to file returns by the due date.
