ISLAMABAD: Seeking equal basic pay scale (BPS), clerical staffers of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Federal Service Tribunal (FST) and Customs Appellate Tribunal have urged the government to end discrimination by providing scale upgradations recently delivered to staffers in provinces.

Talking to the Customs Today, the employees expressed views seeking up-gradations similar to what recently (on January 4) Punjab province has given to superintendents by revising their scale from BPS-16 to BPS-17, assistant/head clerk, from BPS-14 to BPS-16, senior clerk, from BPS-9 to BPS-14, and junior clerk, from BPS-7 to BPS-11.

Chaudhry Siddique, senior clerk associated with the Customs Appellate Tribunal, stated that federal government should consider Punjab like scale up-gradation of clerical staffers working in federal jurisdiction.

He underscored that all provinces had awarded such upgradation to their clerical staff, and questioned that why the federal government was not paying heed to the matter. He demanded the federal government to improve their scales for well-being of the government servants.

Similar views were expressed by the staffers of Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Federal Service Tribunal (FST).

A senior clerk, working with IHC justice, also showed eagerness to attain scale upgradation. He urged the federal government to provide equivalent status. He underscored that this was constitutional obligation of the government to avoid discriminating among workers.

Staffers viewed the situation as discriminatory and hoped that they would be given due upgradations as early as possible.
