PESHAWAR: The country office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), has organised a two-day training on travel documents for capacity building of the front line immigration officers of Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar and FIA Immigration at Torkham check-point.
The training was intended to enhance practical knowledge and skills of immigration officers to actively detect forged and fraudulently-obtained documents. Besides, the trainees were also sensitized about printing techniques in an attempt to overcome growing challenges and complexities around migrant smuggling, as migrants from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa try to reach Oman, United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries.
Representatives from Pakistan International Airline, Shaheen Airline, Emirates Airline, Qatar Airways, Saudi Airline, Airblue, Gerry’s dnata and Royal Airport Services attended the training. The trainers said that in recent years the FIA had reported an increase in migrant smuggling attempts from Pakistan and smugglers were facilitating the intended migrants by providing altered.
