BERLIN: Fiat-Chrysler CEO thinks big. In fact, he has just launched an ambitious $6 billion plan to compete with BMW and Audi in the luxury vehicle market. His plan is simple: transform Alfa Romeo into a true luxury brand.

Initially, FCA will release three fresh vehicles by 2017: a new Giulia midsize sedan, a full-size luxury sedan that will be the flagship of the brand, and a luxury SUV. A full-size luxury SUV and a small “specialized” vehicle with two seats (that many believe will be based on the new Mazda MX-5) should follow in 2018.

This ambitious plan includes raising annual sales of Alfa Romeo products from 70,000 units (2014 figures) to 400,000 units by 2018.

Should these Alfa Romeo vehicles be successful, perhaps we will have the chance to see them on our side of the ocean, distributed by the well-established Chrysler dealership network.

In any case, part of the answer will be revealed this week when the new Giulia is unveiled.
