Four Customs officials killed while chasing smugglers

ISLAMABAD: Four officials of Custom Department have embraced martyrdom while chasing smugglers on Islamabad motorway.

Acceding to details, a Custom intelligence team riding vehicle number IDO 1976 was chasing the smugglers. Unfortunately, the vehicle of Customs officials veered off the wet road following downpour.

Driver Amir Haneef and three sepoys Mohammad Jameel, Mohammad Shakeel, and Aijaz Ahmed died on the spot. However, the fifth official Shahid Lateef survived with minor injuries. The bodies and injured were later shifted to PIMS hospital for medico legal formalities.

Later, Customs Intelligence Director General Imtiaz Ahmed Khan reached PIMS to inquire after the health of injured official.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “The sacrifices made by these officials will make our resolve against smuggling more strong,” adding that the Customs’ anti-smuggling operations would continue with more vigour.

The DG also went to the residences of the deceased officials to condole with the victims’ families. He also assured finance assistance and one employment to the family member of each deceased.

A large number of senior officers including Additional Director Abdul Waheed Khan Marwat and Deputy Director Afzal Watto also reached PIMS.
