KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has demanded the federal government to make the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) free from the bureaucracy and an autonomous body.
FPCCI Chairman Mian Muhammad Idress told Customs Today that the powerful bureaucracy was interfering in the affairs of the TDAP and the business community was being sidelined. “The government should stop this interference by the bureaucracy and make it (TDAP) an autonomous body as it was in the past,” he added.
It is worthy to mention here that the TDAP was established on November 8, 2006, under a presidential ordinance, having the Ministry of Commerce as its administrative ministry. The TDAP is the successor organisation to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and is mandated to have a holistic view of global trade development rather than only the ‘export promotion’ perspective of its predecessor.
