PARIS: France, the European Union’s top grain exporter, shipped almost 628,000 tonnes of soft wheat outside the EU in November, led by 226,000 tonnes sent to Algeria, customs data showed.
The November volume also included the first wheat exports to Indonesia since 2008/09, shipments attributed to a fall in the euro and freight costs.
The monthly volume took France’s soft wheat shipments outside the EU since the start of the 2015/16 season on July 1 to 3.3 million tonnes, down 6 percent compared with the year-earlier period, the data showed.
Total French soft wheat exports so far this season were down 14 percent at 6.1 million tonnes, including a 22 percent drop in exports within the EU.
In barley, France shipped nearly 124,000 tonnes outside the EU in November, as activity continued to slow after a strong run of sales to China earlier in the season, the data showed.
