FTO entertains 81 review petitions till end of August

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has entertained as many as 81 ‘review petitions’ till end of August 2016, through which the appellants has challenged decisions announced by the FTO.

The FTO had heard the review petitions and out of 81, at least 62 had been disposed of. Interestingly, the ‘acceptance ratio’ of the review petitions remained only 38.7 percent which is lesser even than the 50 percent.

According to details of previous year, 118 review petitions were filed with FTO. Out of these, 38 were filed by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and 80 were filed by taxpayers.

Talking to the Customs Today, FTO officials stated that secretariat was working to decrease number of acceptance of review filings. With more reforms and check and balances, the FTO office would reduce the number of such acceptances by making their decisions even lawful and comprehensive.
