ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has decided as many as 15 cases during 2015, it is learnt.
According to the official record, the ombudsman decided only four cases filed at its headquarters in the federal capital while seven cases were decided in Lahore and four in Karachi.
The number of income tax cases remained six, the sales tax cases were five and four cases were related to the customs tax.
The FTO, Abdur Rauf Chaudhry, personally dealt two of the cases in the year. The cases which were dealt by the FTO personally included a sales tax case from Islamabad and a customs tax case from Karachi.
According to details, Justice (r) M Nadir Khan, M Umar Farooq, M Ibrar Ahmed, Imtiaz Ahmad, M Yasin Tahir, M Munir Qureshi, M Sradar Irshad Shaheen and M Afzal N B Kyani were appointed “dealing officers” in cases other than the two which were dealt by the FTO during 2015.
Justice (r) M Nadir Khan decided only customs tax case during the year 2015. M Umar Farooq decided two cases, a sales tax case from Islamabad region and a customs cases from Lahore region. M Ibrar Ahmed entertained a customs tax case from Islamabad region.
Imtiaz Ahmad, another dealing officer of the FTO, decided only one case throughout the year. This case was initiated from Karachi region. M Yasin Tahir was also appointed as “dealing officer” in only one case. He decided a Karachi-based customs case.
M Sradar Irshad Shaheen resolved one case in the year. It was a sales tax complaint in Islamabad and M Afzal N B Kyani, decided income tax case in Lahore.
M Munir Qureshi was the only officer who decided four cases during the year. He was appointed “dealing officer” in Lahore.
