German made landmine detectors impounded on Torkham Border

PESHAWAR: The officials of the Customs Check-Post of Torkham Border thwarted an attempt of smuggling of German origin landmine detectors into the country from Afghanistan the other day.

The customs officials informed Customs Today on Wednesday that they received a tip-off that some smugglers will try to smuggle landmine detectors into Pakistan from Afghanistan.

Following the secret information passed by Collector Customs Muhammad Saeed Jadoon to the Torkham Border Check-Post, the Customs and Transit staff Torkham enhanced the vigilance on the border. The customs staff intercepted a truck coming to Pakistan. The customs staff conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and found 10 contraband German origin landmine detectors.

The smuggling item was concealed into the secret spaces of the Afghan-registered truck No: NGR-5563. The authorities concerned took into possession the vehicle and apprehended the trucker under the customs bylaws of Customs Act-1969.
