Goods transport body demands withdrawal of 16 % ta

LAHORE: President Pakistan Goods Transport Association Shoukat Ali has said that government’s decision to impose 16 percent sales tax on transporters is totally unjustified.

Talking to Customs Today he said that government takes this step according to directions of IMF. He warned government that if the government will not withdraw 16% tax on goods transporters then they have no option but to protest against government. He said they will block main roads that leads to wheel jam throughout the country.

He said the government destroying goods transport industry by the order of IMF, at 16 percent tax the good prices very high and out of the reach of transporters, while government will be responsible for entire situation.

Senior vice president Aleem Butt and secretary general Nabeel Mehmood said that goods transport paying million of rupees in the form of annual sales and road tax and also in case of natural disaster the goods transport association stand with government to help the needy persons. If the government not withdraw 16 percent sales tax they will start wheel jam strike till the acceptance of their demands.
