KARACHI: Pakistan Vanaspati Mills Association (PVMA) Chairman Atif Ikram demanded the government stop manufacturing and sale of substandard edible ghee/cooking oil in the country.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the PVMA chairman was of the view that it was mandatory for all oil manufacturing companies to register with the Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) in accordance with the laws and guidelines, however; such guidelines are not being followed in production and sale of substandard edible ghee and cooking oil.
He further said that a majority of the cooking oil companies is not registered with the PSQCA, and they sell oil in market without having PSQCA quality assurance.
Ikram complained that the authorities concerned have ignored the open sale of substandard ghee and oil in the country.
He urged the authorities concerned to take immediate notice of the rampant sale of substandard edible ghee and cooking oil in the country, as it is injurious to health.
The PVMA chairman asked the government to ensure selling of standard oil and ghee in the country in order to prevent the people from hazards of substandard edible oil/ghee.
