Govt releases over Rs 15.3b for water sector

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has released Rs 15,388.643 million (Rs 15.4 billion) to various projects of water sector out of Rs 30,120 million allocated in the budget under annual Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2015-16 so for.

According to the data of the Planning Commission, a sum of Rs 4631.543 million was released for Kachhi Canal Project (Phase-1), Rs 2,000 million for extension of right bank outfall drain from Sehwan to Sea, Rs 700 million for Darwat dam, Rs 140 million for lining of distribution and minors in Sindh, Rs 1400 million for Nai Gaj Dam and Rs.455 million for construction of small storage dams (Sindh).

An amount of Rs 700 million each was released to Rainee Canal (Phase-I&II) and Raising of Mangla dam Project, Rs 308 million for re-construction of Shadi Kour dam, Rs 472 million to remodelling of Warsak Canal System in Peshawar, Rs 560 million to Remedial Masseurs to control waterlogging (Muzaffargarh), Rs 140 million to Revamping/Rehabilitation of Irrigation and Drainage System Sindh, Rs 105 million to Construction of Fall Structure on Nara Canal, Rs 140 million to Gomal Zam dam, Rs 80 million to Greater Thal Canal and Irrigation System Rehabilitation Punjab (Phase-1).

Similarly, an amount of Rs 240 million was released for Ghabir dam (Punjab), Rs 455 million for construction of small storage dams (Sindh), Rs 350 million for construction of Palai Sanam dams (KP), Rs 200 million for construction of 100 delay action dams in Balochistan and Rs 270 million to flood dispersal structure along with conveyance system on Nari River (Bolan).

Meanwhile, a sum of Rs 53,907.159 million was released against the total allocation of Rs 113,886.285 million during the current fiscal year for various power projects so far.
