Govt striving for development of Balochistan: Senate told

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali Monday informed the Senate that federal government was utilizing all available resources for the development of Balochistan.

He said this while winding up debate on a motion moved by Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi to discuss the situation arising out of low water level in Balochistan.

The Minister said unfortunately all the governments in the past had failed to focus on the construction of water reservoirs.

He said the present government had announced mega projects to overcome water scarcity.

He informed the House that around 18,000 illegal tubewells are operating in the Balochistan province.

The Minister said that Balochistan province had to pay around Rs 148 billion to federal government on account of electricity bill.

Senator Mir Kabeer said that presently Balochistan has the main issue of water shortage.

He asked the federal government to extend assistance to Balochistan government for the construction of dams.

Senator Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar asked the federal government to release funds to Balochistan province for the construction of dams at the earliest.
