Govt striving to promote mines sector

LAHORE: The government was working to promote investment friendly culture in mines and mineral sector in the province.

Institutional restructuring of Mines & Minerals department Punjab and other such initiatives were aimed at improving working of this sector, a senior official of Mines Department Punjab told APP.

He said that use of ultra modern mining technologies in this sector were of utmost importance, adding that practical steps to strengthen regulatory framework for curbing monopolistic tendencies, lease management and ensuring healthy and safe mining environment including miners’ welfare were priorities of the government.

The capacity based human resource augmentation was the need of the hour, he said and added that exploration of iron and copper ore worth trillion of rupees from Chiniot Rajwa reservoirs and extraction of coal to make functional.  Coal Power Plants to meet the present energy shortage has increased importance of mining sector many times, he said.
