LAHORE: Pakistan has suspended import of cotton from India through Land Freight Unit Wagha as per directions of Plant Protection Department.
According to sources of Customs Today, Pakistan has suspended import of cotton from India and more then 2000 bails of raw cotton are barred to enter in Pakistan. These bails of raw cotton have reached near to Pakistan border and were ready to cross international border but due to escalation on line of control Pakistani high officials stopped that loaded trucks to enter in Pakistan.
Informed sources in the textile sector told that high officials of the Plant Protection department, which works under federal ministry of food security, have issued verbal orders to the staff to stop issuing permits of import of cotton. The issuance of import permits from India has been suspended for three days.
The sources said that many textile exporting manufacturers import cotton as well as chemical dyes from India in heavy quantities. The sources in plant protection department said that import of cotton without proper permit has been banned.
