Govt to enhance powers of DG Intelligence to cope with tax defaulters

KARACHI: The government is seriously considering enhancing powers of the Directorate General Intelligence and Investigations after the end of the current fiscal year. These powers will enable the directorate to effectively tighten noose around tax defaulters.

Sources of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) told Customs Today that soon after the beginning of the new fiscal year, the government will adopt a new strategy to cope with tax defaulters. The government has already sent a number of proposals to the law ministry, seeking its opinion to take stern actions against defaulters of income tax, sales tax, and federal excise duty, sources disclosed.

Sources further revealed, that after conferring of these powers the officials of Inland Revenue will perform their duties more effectively and this step will put a positive impact on revenue recovery also.

Sources said that after the expiry of current fiscal year strict measures will be adopted to deal with tax defaulters.
