Growers advised to complete wheat sowing till 15th

LAHORE: The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised the growers to complete wheat sowing in rain-fed areas till November 15.

Agriculture Department Director Information Muhammad Rafique Akhtar said this while talking to APP. He said the practise of early sowing would improve wheat yield in these areas.

Rain-fed areas which includes Attock, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal and Khushab the wheat is cultivated on about 1.6 million acres of land, he added. He said that NARC 2009, Dharabi 2011 and Pakistan 2013 were among the certified varities. He said that 10,000 bags of high yielding variety Chakwal 50 which is resistent against “Kungi” disease were being distributed to farmers in a transparent manner on the direction of the Punjab Chief Minister.

He also directed farmers to seek guidance from the agriculture department of their areas so that they may get all information regarding handling their crop properly.
