SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala Region team has impounded a non-custom paid Honda Civic car worth Rs 1.5 million from GT Road during anti-smuggling campaign.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan instructed Superintendent Tariq Rafique to constitute teams to check vehicle which were plying on roads and were being used for smuggling activities. Superintendent Tariq constituted a team comprising Inspector Syed Majid Raza and constables Sajid Raza, Mubashir etc.
The team started checking of vehicles at GT Road during which the team intercepted a Honda Civic car bearing registration number AAK-387 of Quetta worth Rs.1.5 million which was plying on road without payment of customs duty.
The team asked driver namely Nabi about customs duty paid documents but the driver failed to produce customs duty paid documents. During initial investigations driver told the customs team that the vehicle belonged to a renowned personality.
The customs team impounded the car and released the driver after proper interrogations. The team instructed driver if the owner will produce the customs paid duty documents within 72 hours then the team will release car after charging of reasonable fine according to customs laws and customs Act 1969 otherwise after expiry of time limit the team will refer case to Customs Adjudication for further proceeding. If the learned court will announce judgment in the favor of department then the department will authorize to auction of car while the team will also send car to concern laboratory for test and valuation.
