SIALKOT: The Gujranwala Customs Intelligence claimed to have impounded a non-duty paid vehicle worth Rs 1.5 million the other day.

According to information received, Superintendent Muhammad Akmal deputed Inspector Majid Raza in Sialkot on the directions of Assistant Director Zainab Mehmood. The inspector along with his team members Riasat, Ali Muhammad, Riaz and others checked several vehicles in the city. Meanwhile, the team members checked a vehicle (Honda VTI) bearing registration number ANK-Sindh 112. Sources said that the vehicle belonged to a renowned dignitary of Sialkot. The estimated value of the vehicle is Rs 1.5 million. The Customs Intelligence officials asked driver Kaleem about the legal documents of the vehicle, which they suspected was being used without payment of customs duty. As suspected, the driver failed to produce any documents regarding the legal import of the vehicle, on which the team members impounded the vehicle and shifted it to the compound of the Customs Intelligence office. However, the driver was released after proper interrogation.
