Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impound truck, smuggled tyres

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala impounded a Mazda Truck and confiscated 122 smuggled foreign origin tyres at Kamoke Toll Plaza check post.

Reportedly, Customs Intelligence Director General Shuakat Ali has strictly instructed all officials of the department to take stern action against smuggling in order to save national economy. The officials have started speedy action to curb smuggling from the Gujranwala region.

Superintendent Tariq Rafique ordered Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar to constitute a team in order to check vehicles on Grand Trunk (GT) road to curb smuggling. The deputy superintendent formed a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Saad Iqbal and deputed team to check vehicles at Kamoke Toll Plaza.

The intelligence officer along with his team members, Constables Usama, Sajid Raza, Boota, Mubashirand others started checking vehicles on the said check post where they intercepted a Mazda Truck bearing Registration number LES-10-5640 for checking.

The team during checking recovered 122 foreign origin tyres worth Rs 600,000. The 84 were used and 38 were new tyres. The team asked driver, Tahir about booking papers of tyres but he could not produce ay documents. The driver told the team that the tyres were loaded from a good transport company of Rawalpindi and he did not move about it; therefore, the officials impounded the vehcie under the customs law.

The team released driver after proper interrogation, while a legal notice will be issued to good transport company manager concerned as per customs laws. The team will register a case under the Customs Act, 1969  and sent the case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
