SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala has impounded a non-duty paid car worth Rs 1.3 million on Narowal Road.
Reportedly, Superintendent Chaudhary Muhammad Akmal deputed Inspector Mian Muhammad Yousaf to check vehicles under an anti-smuggling campaign, which was announced by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The inspector along with his team members comprising constables Abid, Basharat and others checked many vehicles at Narowal Road. Meanwhile, the team intercepted a Toyota Corolla model 2004 for checking.
The driver who identified himself as Riasat Ali, when asked to show documents regarding legal import of the vehicle, he could not produce the required documents in this regard.
Therefore, the officials impounded the car under the Customs Act, 1969 and registered a case against the owner of the vehicle. It is learnt here that the owner is a businessmen and also a political figure.
The team released the driver after proper interrogation. The team shifted car to the office of the Customs Intelligence. The team will send car to forensic laboratory for test and after verification the case will be sent to adjudication for further legal action.
