SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, team has impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Surf Hilux worth Rs 1.2 million on Narowal Road.
As per details, Deputy Director Muhammad Anwar constituted a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Syed Majid Raza to check vehicles on Narowal Road. The investigation officer along with his team members, including constables Sajjad Raza, Mubashir, Boota and others started checking of vehicles.
The officials intercepted a vehicle Toyota Hilux Surf model 2013 which was playing on road without registration number. The team asked driver named Rasheed to show documents regarding customs clearance of the vehicle, but he could not produce the same. The driver further revealed that the vehicle was owned by a renowned person.
However, the team impounded the vehicle worth Rs 1.2 million and shifted to the regional office. The customs released the driver after proper interrogation. Officials said that the vehicle will be sent to laboratory for forensic test and later, the case will be forwarded to the Customs Adjudication.
The officials said that the department was striving to curb smuggling of goods and vehicles by adopting effective strategy, adding that noose has been tightened around the smugglers.
