Gujranwala Customs Intelligence impounds vehicle worth Rs 4m

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala has impounded a non-duty paid vehicle worth Rs 4 million and owned by a political figure.

Reportedly, Superintendent Tariq Rafique, Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar and Intelligence Officers Syed Majid Raza, Nasarullah and Saeed Ahmed were on special checking of vehicles in the area of Gujranwala Cantt when they intercepted a vehicle bearing Registration No DF-056.

The team asked the owner, who introduced himself Shoaib Butt to show documents regarding legal import of the vehicle, but he could not produce the same; therefore, the officials impounded the vehicle under the customs laws and shifted it to the office of Customs Intelligence. It may be mentioned here that customs officials also recovered a hand gun from the vehicle.

Shoaib Butt told the officials that that his vehicle was not illegal and pistol was also licenced. The team instructed him to produce the documents regarding customs clearance within 72 hours if he has.

The team also said that a case will be registered against the owner under the customs laws, if he failed to show documents within giving time period. The officials released the owner after proper interrogation.

Officials said that the vehicle will be sent for forensic test to check whether its chassis number is cut/welded or not. After registering a case, it will be sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action against the accused person, they said, adding that the Customs Intelligence was taking action against the culprits without any discrimination.
