Gujranwala Customs Intelligence seizes 1,040 yard smuggled cloth

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala has confiscated 1,040 yard of smuggled China origin cloth worth Rs 600,000 at bus stand during an anti-smuggling activity which is started on the directions of the the Federal Board of Revenue.

Following the directions of Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan, Assistant Director Itrat Hussain ordered Superintendent Tariq Rafique to constitute a team to conduct a raid to fail a smuggling bid.

The superintendent formed a team comprising Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar, Inspector Nasarullah, Constables Usama, Sajid Raza, Mubashir and Boota to check vehicles at general bus stand in order to curb smuggling.

The team started checking of public transport meanwhile the team intercepted a bus which was reached Gujranwala bus stand from Rawalpindi for checking that led to the recovery of 1040 yards of China XIANG cloth worth Rs 600,000.

The team asked driver Zulfiqar to show documents regarding legal import of the cloth but he could not produce the same. The driver informed the officials that the cloth was loaded from Rawalpindi Bus Stand adding that he has no information about any documents.

The team confiscated the cloth and shifted to the store room of department. The team has registered a case under Customs Act, 1969 whereas the team challaned the driver. The Customs Intelligence team has released driver after proper interrogation along with bus.

The team will send legal notice to Rawalpindi bus stand manager whereas the team will refer case to the Customs Adjudication Court for further legal proceedings. If the learned court announces decision in the favour of department, the department will auction the confiscated cloth.
