Hyderabad ASO seizes 600 cartons of smuggled cigarettes

HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has confiscated 600 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs 150,000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 215,265 during an operation in the city.

The ASO team following the instructions of Hyderabad Customs Collector Agha Shahid Majeed conducted different raids in the region to curb smuggling.

The ASO team raided a bus stop near Bakra Piri, Hyderabad and seized smuggled cigarettes, which were allegedly being smuggled from Karachi to Hyderabad. The officials seized the cigarettes after suspect remained fail to produce documents regarding legal import.

Officials told Customs Today that a seizure report has been prepared and foreign origin 600 cartons of different cigarette have already been deposited to the state warehouse of Hyderabad.

The ASO team comprising Inspector Waqar Ahmed Baig, Inspector Shafi Mohammad Jamali, Inspector Mushtaq Ali Lakho, Sepoys Essa, driver Sadiq Khas Kheli and others took part in the operation.
